Mistress is an adorable ball of sweetness and fun.  When I first got her, she took a good 2-3 hours to warm up to me and she was very hesitant to explore the inside of the house.  It's obvious she is much more comfortable outside and her true personality shines when you play outside with her.  She's learning fetch fast and loves playing for long periods of time.  She seems to be house-trained, as I've had her over a week and haven't had any accidents.  I thing she's going through a puppy phase--she loves finding things to chew on--shoes, book corners, napkins from the garbage--but we are working on that little habit and she's showing signs of improvement.  She has a very sweet spirit, but she takes a little time to gain your trust.  She's not keen on men, but she's warming up to my dad.  All in all, I think she would make a wonderful, sweet companion with someone who has time to spend with her.  She adores playing outside WITH someone, and she's learning to walk and run on a leash.  She will need someone who wants an active dog, who will keep you active, but still loves to relax on a rug in the living room with you.  She really needs someone who will just spend time with her.

Mistress is brand new lab mix from a shelter in Arkansas and weighs in at around 20 lbs!  Check back soon for more information.

Unfortunately, Mistress has tested positive for Heartworms. She will not be available for adoption for about six weeks as she will be starting her treatment next week.  Heartworms are preventable, all it takes is a pill given by the human caretaker once a month to the dog.  The treatment to clear the dog of the worms is costly and hard on the dogs.  Lab Rescue does not feel this is a reason to euthanize a dog and chooses to treat them, any donations would be appreciated.
