Meet Deacon who is a 2 to 3
year old 90 lb hunk of love. He was adopted from the shelter
and when the new adoptees found out he was heartworm positive
they didn't want him and brought him back. It is very
expensive to treat heartworms and people just can't afford it.
If they would only give them a heartworm pill once a month,
wonderful dogs like Deacon wouldn't end up in the shelter. That
is the only reason I have found they would give up this
wonderful boy. He is housebroken, loves all dogs, he is
neutered, loves people and will even wear a costume. He is past
the chewing stage and sleeps on the floor next to the foster
parent’s bed. He is calm but playful. He will be going into
heartworm treatment the first week of November and will be ready
for adoption in December as soon as his treatment is complete
and he is released. He will make a great holiday companion, so
bring in the New Year with the Deacon.
Deacon has tested positive
for Heartworms. Heartworms are preventable, all it takes is a
pill given by the human caretaker once a month to the dog. The
treatment to clear the dog of the worms is costly and hard on
the dogs. Lab Rescue does not feel this is a reason to
euthanize a dog and chooses to treat them, any donations would
be appreciated.
