Hilda is a 5 month old black labbie that was dumped with her brother Steeler and 3 other siblings in a stranger's dog run. She hasn't had much association with people and is shy. She has made amazing progress in just 3 days. Before to get her in the house from the yard, you'd have to open the patio door and leave the room and then sneak back in when she wasn't looking and shut the door or she'd dart out. She and her brother wanted to come in really bad when you'd call them. They'd stand just out of reach and wag and whine furiously but wouldn't approach - even for treats. Now they both come into the house without much coaxing. They are still shy about coming to you unless you are sitting down but they are improving every day. When she finally builds up the courage to come to you, she just loves the attention. She practically sits in your lap for petting and face licking. She crates well and has not had any accidents in the house. She didn't appear to know what a toy was for the first couple of days. She is now a toy chewer-upper. She is not people food aggressive nor does she appear to be dog aggressive. She has learned to walk on leash in just 3 days - with only a little pulling for the first 10-20 yards before she settles in for a brisk walk.
Update -- Hilda has come out of her shell. She likes to be petted and will lean into you and will lick your face and hands if you stop. She is just a sweety-pie. She is kid friendly (my neice and nephew ages 6 and 3 crawled all over her) and okay with cats. She walks very good on a leash and is content to follow along beside or slightly behind you. She does not appear to be a water-lover as most labs are - in that on her walks she does not leap into the pond - instead she splashes along the edges. She also thought I was trying to drown her when I gave her a bath. She crates well and doesn't seem to mind it. At her spaying she weighed 52 lbs so she will be an average-sized lab. She likes to chase balls and other bouncy objects and will bring them back to you so that you can wrestle her for them.
