This is Root Beer, a 1-2 year old chocolate female. She is smaller in height and stockier than the average labbie, about 69 lbs, so she is best described as an English type Lab.
She is so sweet and gentle! Very calm and shy for a labbie so she isn’t a terror inside the house knocking stuff over and require constant watching. She follows me from room to room and stays close. She doesn’t climb on furniture or chew, and hasn’t had an accident in the two days I have fostered her so she may be house broken already. Doesn’t like a crate or climbing in/out of a vehicle but is easily enticed with a treat.
She is great around other dogs and kids even though she doesn’t play much.
She was found loose in Siloam Springs, AK with a litter of pups. The Animal Welfare folks were able to catch her pups but Root Beer eluded them for around six months before they were finally able to catch her. By that time all her pups had already been adopted so she was not reunited with them.
Being on her own so long and at a young age, she is doing surprisingly well inside my house. She is food assertive, not aggressive though. Once she realizes she will be fed and doesn’t have to fend for herself, I’m sure she will get over the assertiveness. We are working on general house manors, commands (sit, stay, down), leash walking, and learning how to play. She is starting to show some interest in a tennis ball, playing with my other dogs and being less shy. So far, she has been doing great.
