SPECIAL NEEDS LABRADORS
In Oklahoma, heartworm infection is a year round threat and all too often Labradors come to us infected. Heartworms can be treated. The cost ranges from $200.00 - $400.00 depending upon the weight of the dog and the type of drug used. Treatment involves hospitalization for two days and crate/leash rest for four weeks while the adult worms are dissolving. Rescue does not have adequate funds to treat these animals or the foster homes in place to deal with their post treatment confinement therefore most of them are destroyed. If you would consider adopting one of these special needs dogs and assuming responsibility for their treatment, please indicate such on your adoption application.
