LINUS
We at Lab Rescue are often touched by a very special lab that passes through our homes but not our hearts.
Meet Linus. He was one of those very special labs that we rescued in the spring of 2004. Linus and his sister Lucy were surrendered to the Broken Arrow Shelter when their owner was incarcerated. They had their AKC registry papers, and shot records with them too. The call came in that Lucy had been adopted but that Linus the male was still available. No one had wanted him to adopt for it was obvious that he limped when he walked.

I went to meet Linus the day before his euthanasia and what can I say but WOW! Out came Linus into the courtyard area and with an obvious limp and swagger and weighing in at 159.6 pounds. He was the biggest lab I had ever seen. When I got him to the vet, my home, his foster home, and event showing everyone had the same response - WOW! I will have to tell you his heart was as large as his girth.
Linus is a lover and the gentlest giant you will meet. He was placed into foster care and then eventually adopted by his foster parents. Before this he was also diagnosed with Hip Dysphasia in both hips, one graded slightly higher. His care was to get excess wt. off and receive supplements and anti-inflammatory therapy. His family was aware and he |

Linus has come full circle. He now can jump up and support his weight on his back legs, he even jumps up on my big bed, it is absolutely AMAZING! Once a 160 lb dog, he is now a happy and healthier doggie because of the Bloom's (his family); and his extended family at Lab Rescue, OK. |

was adopted as special needs. After adoption, he lost his excess wt., received further evaluation from a vet and it was determined his knees were weak from all the years of obesity and compensation. His forever family knew he had to be

given relief. Lab Rescue knows that comes at a price, and one that we have never been able to assist with after adoption. For this reason, the LINUS FUND is being established.
We are setting up a fund for our labs that once a forever home is found, and orthopedic surgeries are required, a forever family will be able to apply. Each application will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and assistance granted once a final invoice of vet care is provided. Applications will receive board review, families notified, vets notified for verification, and then final decisions granted. It is our hope to provide enough assistance to offset the cost of surgical intervention or provide for follow-up care, and/or medications required. We are not sure what this FUND will grow to become, but it is our hope it makes a difference in the life of the Lab, their family and allows that animal to live out their years with a family that was matched to love them forever.
Assist us by making a tax deductible donation to the
